Advanced Dementia Care Training
This course builds on existing dementia awareness and provides a deeper understanding of the condition, how it progresses, and the importance of a person‑centred approach in delivering high‑quality care. It is designed for nurses, HCAs, care staff, and social care workers who support individuals living with dementia and want to strengthen their confidence, knowledge, and practical skills.
The session explores how dementia affects memory, communication, physical abilities, emotional wellbeing, and perception of the world. Participants will learn how to adapt their approach, reduce distress, and create supportive environments that promote orientation, independence, and comfort. The course also covers positive risk‑taking and person‑centred planning to help staff balance safety with dignity, choice, and quality of life.

In‑depth understanding of dementia Types of dementia, common symptoms, and how dementia is assessed
Supporting individuals as dementia progresses Approaches to memory loss, physical changes, emotional needs, and altered visual perception
Positive risk‑taking in dementia care Considering self‑esteem, personal history, individual ability, and lifestyle choices
Person‑centred planning Reinforcing dignity, respect, autonomy, and overall wellbeing
Communication Adapting communication styles to reduce distress and enhance connection
