
About the Course
Dementia Awareness Training
This Dementia Awareness training course has been designed to help nurses, HCAs, carers, and social care staff develop a clear understanding of dementia and how to work effectively and compassionately alongside people living with the condition. By exploring symptoms, behaviours, and the challenges individuals may face, participants gain the confidence to communicate more effectively, manage difficult situations, and uphold dignity and safety in all aspects of care.
The course emphasises the importance of a person‑centred approach, enabling staff to recognise individual needs, preferences, and life histories. Delegates will also explore equality, diversity, and safeguarding considerations to ensure that care remains respectful, inclusive, and protective.
Course Content
The syllabus includes:
Understanding dementia What dementia is and how it affects the brain
Common types of dementia Including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and other forms
Causes and symptoms Recognising early signs, progression, and behavioural changes
Person‑centred care and care planning Supporting independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement
Equality and diversity in dementia care Ensuring inclusive, respectful practice
Recognising and helping to prevent abuse Safeguarding responsibilities and responding to concerns
