Safeguarding of Children Training
This Safeguarding of Children training course supports social care workers, educators, and childcare practitioners to recognise, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns confidently and appropriately. The session builds a strong understanding of safeguarding principles, the different forms of abuse, and the responsibilities of professionals working with children and young people.
Participants will explore how to identify signs of harm, how to respond if a child discloses a concern, and the correct procedures for reporting and recording information. The course emphasises creating safe, supportive environments where children feel protected, listened to, and respected.
Course Content
The syllabus includes:
Definition of a child and young person Understanding legal definitions and age‑related safeguarding responsibilities
What constitutes abuse Clear explanations of harm, maltreatment, and safeguarding risk
Recognising signs and symptoms Identifying physical, emotional, behavioural, and environmental indicators
Types of abuse Including neglect, sexual, physical, emotional, and psychological harm
Safeguarding individuals from abuse Practical steps to reduce risk and promote safety
Radicalisation awareness Understanding definitions, warning signs, and preventative measures
Responding to concerns What to do when you are worried about a child’s safety
Handling disclosures How to respond sensitively and appropriately when a child shares a concern
